Science Setu Workshop at Hindu College Auditorium -2016

The workshop has competitions, which are open to partner colleges under Science Setu -2016


Science Setu, the Workshop is going to take place at Hindu College Auditorium on Friday, January 22, 2016, which will be unitedly organised by the seven colleges of North Campus of the University of Delhi in collaboration with the National Institute of Immunology (NII).

The Topic of the Science setu workshop is DNA Fingerprinting, which can be implemented in the field of criminology, food &agriculture, medicine & health, veterinary science, conservation and classification of biodiversity.

Dr. J. Gowrishankar, FormerDirector, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad has kindly agreed to be the “Theme Speaker” for the workshop. Apart from this, there will be a discussion on various aspects of DNA fingerprinting by experts and stakeholders.

Under the sponsorship of Science setu , which aimed to provide year-round programs also conduct pre-workshop and post-workshop competitions for students.

The workshop also has competitions, which are open to partner colleges under Science Setu. The details of the competitions are given below.

·         Essay Competition for Students on Stem Cells

·         Poster Competition for Students on DNA Fingerprinting

Guidelines for Science Setu Essay Competition

Title of the essay: “Stem Cell Science and Applications: Hype and Reality”.

Language: English

Authorship: There shall be only one author per essay.

Font: MS Word, Times New Roman font.

Length: It should be written in English and should not exceed 750 words (text only).

Illustration: Two or three well-labelled, appropriately-captioned illustrations (line diagrams, half tone

Photographs, graphs) may be incorporated. Be well aware of downloading directly from the web! This is strictly prohibited.

Guidelines for Science Setu Poster Competition

Theme: The general theme of the poster presentation is 'DNA Fingerprinting'. However, students can choose from any of the following four sub-themes:

  • DNA Fingerprinting in Criminology
  • DNA Fingerprinting in Agriculture & Food Processing
  • DNA Fingerprinting in Paternity testing
  • DNA Fingerprinting in Evolution, Classification and conservation

b) At the College Level: Each college shall decide the date of the poster competition at its own college.

The posters will be judged at the college level and the best three will be nominated for display at Hindu College.
