Located in the Lajpat Nagar area of South Delhi, LSR was established in 1956 by the late Lala Shri Ram in the memory of his wife. Since then, it has built its reputation as top-tier Girls College, ranking itself among the best arts colleges of the country. Famous for its Arts and Commerce departments, LSR has been ranked no. 1 in Arts and Education, no. 2 in Commerce and no. 3 in Mass Communication by India Today. 2. Sri Venkateswara College (Venky)

Venky is a co-ed college, located at the heart of South Campus. It is known for being one of the leading colleges of Delhi university in the science, arts and commerce streams. It’s one of the few DU colleges to have recently renovated hostels for both boys and girls on campus. Initially started out as a college to cater to the needs of South Indian students, Venky soon outgrew that as an aim and now holds no reservation for any religious or linguistic minority groups. Admission reservations in Venky are only for those castes which find a place in the central OBC List.

3. Jesus and Mary College (JMC)

Built in 1961, JMC, located in the diplomatic area of Chanakyapuri. It is an all girls college offering courses in arts, commerce and mathematics. Known for its lush green lawns and modern infrastructure, JMC is one of few colleges to have no affiliation with Delhi University Student Union and has its own separate online application system. A minority institution by nature, JMC has a 50% reservation for Christian students.

Built in 1967, Gargi College offers courses in arts, commerce, science and elementary education. An all-girls college, Gargi prides itself on being one of the only 2 colleges to be awarded the ‘Prestigious College with a Potential for Excellence Grant’ by the UGC. 6. Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC)

Situated in Netaji Nagar locality of the city, DCAC was built in 1989. It pioneered the three-year honours programme in Journalism. Its holistic professional approach in its teaching pattern has established DCAC as one of the most desirable colleges in South Campus. Another interesting fact about the college is their quarterly magazine Rhapsody, a student’s initiative. 7. Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (SBSC)

Shaheed Bhagat Singh was established in 1967 with its current premises at Sheikh Sarai. The college is named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, an Indian freedom fighter who believed strongly in social justice. The college is known for its Commerce department. SBSC is ranked amongst the top colleges for commerce in the country. It's a co-ed institute offering courses in the arts, mathematics and commerce stream. 8. College of Vocational Studies (CVS)

Located in the heart of Sheikh Sarai II, CVS was built in 1972. It was built to encourage higher vocational education as compared to the traditional educational courses. Although it began with courses in French, German and Spanish, the college now also offers higher education in the streams of liberal arts and commerce. CVS is one of the few colleges to offer a course in Management Studies.
