National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi

The National School of Drama was a constituent unit of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, started way back in 1959. However, NSD became an independent entity in 1975 and was registered as an autonomous institute.

What’s on offer?

NSD offers an intensive and comprehensive three-year diploma course in dramatic arts. There are two performing wings in NSD: The Repertory Company and the Theatre-in-Education Company. After successfully completing the three-year diploma course, candidates may get considered for enrolment in either of these two or may work on a dissertation or project on theatre for which a fellowship for one year will be granted.

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune

The Film Institute of India was established in 1960 in Pune. In 1971, the television institute from Mandi House, New Delhi was shifted to Pune and the institute was renamed ‘Film and Television Institute of India’. It is one of the top theatre schools in India and boasts a rich legacy of quality education in cinema.

What’s on offer?

FTII is divided into two wings: Film wing and Television wing.
