UPSC Civil Services Prelims was conducted on August 7, 2016, and it was taken by 11.36 lakh candidates. UPSC Civil Services Prelims is the first step towards pursuing a successful and rewarding career as a civil servant in India. Candidates who clear the prelims exam can sit for the mains and those who also clear the mains exam have to appear for interview before the final selection.
UPSC conducts Civil Services Preliminary Examination every year for shortlisting candidates who can serve the country as Indian Administrative Service (IAS) or Indian Police Service (IPS) or Indian Foreign Service (IFS) or Indian Revenue Service (IRS) among others. This time, the exam is to be conducted for filling up of 1079 administrative posts. Candidates who hope to clear the prelims exam are already preparing for the mains exam.
UPSC Civil Services Preliminary exam opens the gateway for mains examination, which is the second step in the process to become eligible for administrative positions in all-India services and central civil services. The UPSC Civil Services Mains exam is to be held on December 3, 2016. With the declaration of the result, UPSC will draw the list of candidates who will qualify for Civil Services Mains exam.
The candidates will be shortlisted based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33 percent in general studies paper II of the civil services prelims exam as well as total qualifying marks of general studies paper I as decided by the commission.
