The ranking system will help students to choose the best college as per their requirement during counselling session.
The Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) has decided to introduce a ranking system to improve the quality of education in colleges affiliated to it from next session onwards.
The decision was taken by Vinay Pathak, vice-chancellor of the UPTU, during a meeting. In the meeting, panelists discussed methods to improve the quality of education and overall development of students.
According to UPTU, eighteen points have been suggested to rank colleges on the basis of education, placement, sports, result, extracurricular activities, college infrastructure, etc. The college ranking system will help students to choose the best college as per their requirement during counseling session.
It will also curb the fake advertisements put out by colleges to attract students.
"We are undertaking a massive overhaul of the university. We have invited suggestions from students and teachers in terms of upgradation needed for the university. The UPTU has notified several regulations with the objective of sustenance and improvement in the quality of higher education and for undertaking academic reforms," said Pathak.
He said the ranking will be done by teams formed by the UPTU on the basis of feedback from students and teachers. After ranking the colleges, the data will be uploaded on UPTU website. Ranking of the colleges will be examined every year.
"What we want to do is rate colleges on who's offering the best value to students. Apart from this, a society Teachers Welfare Fund will be formed to help out teachers in case of any financial aid needed," added Pathak.
The UPTU has also raised concern after witnessing steep downfall in admission during the ongoing session. Around 40% seats in various engineering and management colleges remained vacant.
Sources said mushrooming private universities, a fall in campus placements and poor quality of infrastructure are the factors making students reject the B.Tech and MBA courses offered by the UPTU.
