VITEEE 2017: All You Need To Know

VITEEE 2017 or Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination is a national-level entrance examination conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology University. Conducted in more than a hundred cities across India, the exam enables the candidates to get admission at Vellore and Chennai campuses of the university. Every year, lakhs of students appear for the examination that puts 5000 B.Tech seats on offer.

VIT University has issued the official notification inviting applications for VITEEE exam for admissions to Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Information Technology & Engineering. As per the official web portal of VIT University, the upcoming VITEEE 2017 is going to be conducted from April 5, 2017 to April 16, 2017. 

The examination will comprise of two question paper sets namely medical and non-medical. Candidates will have to choose any of the two sets comprising of 125 multiple choice questions. Both the sets will have questions judging the candidate’s understanding of various topics of Physics, Mathematics/ Biology, Chemistry and English.

The examination will be conducted in three sessions and candidates will have to book slots choosing their preferred test date, centre and time.

VITEEE 2017 Eligibility Criteria:

In order to apply for VITEEE 2017, candidates should have taken regular, formal and full-time education in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology through one of the following –

  • PUC or 10+2 from any recognized board/ university.
  • PIO & OCI holder can also apply
  • NRI candidates can apply through NRI forms
  • Foreign candidates can apply through foreign category only
  • National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)

However, a minimum of 60% marks of aggregate is required by general category candidates while SC/ ST/ northeastern states candidates should have secured at least 50% marks of aggregate.Only candidates born on or after July 1, 1995 will be eligible to apply for VITEEE.

VITEEE 2017 Application Forms:

The application forms for VITEEE 2017 have begun from 9th November 2017 and is going to conclude on 15th March 2017. Candidates can fill-in the application forms online on the official website of VIT University or offline by buying the application forms from listed post offices on payment of application fee. However, only candidates filling online application forms will have the option of modifying the details of their form even after submission.

In order to fill-in the application form online, candidates will have to register themselves on the VIT University website. They will also be required to upload scanned copies of their signature and photograph before submitting the application forms. Candidates buying the application forms offline will have to speed post the form to VIT Vellore.

The availability of application forms will conclude on 15th March 2017. Candidates are advised to submit the filled-in application forms of VITEEE before the last date.

VITEEE 2017 Application Fee:

The online application fee for VITEEE 2017 is INR 970 while candidates buying application forms offline will have to pay an application fee of INR 990. To pay the application fee online, candidates can use their debit card, credit card or can pay using net banking or through a demand draft. On the other hand, offline candidates can simply pay the amount at the post-office to obtain the application forms.

VITEEE 2017 Exam Pattern:

VITEEE 2017 will be a computer-based test which will be conducted in three sessions. The exam paper will consists of a total of 125 multiple-choice questions carrying one mark each. There will be two exam paper sets i.e. medical & non-medical. Candidates will be required to answer any one of the question paper sets of their choice. The questions will be based on various topics of English, Physics, Biology/ Mathematics and Chemistry. Taking into account VITEEE 2016 exam pattern, there is also a possibility of no negative marking in the upcoming VITEEE exam.

VITEEE 2017 Syllabus:

Candidates appearing for VITEEE 2017 are advised to be aware of the entire syllabus of the exam in order to obtain a good VITEEE rank. Candidates will have questions from various topics of Physics including Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Nuclear Physics, Atomic Physics, Optics, etc. The question paper may test a candidate’s knowledge of Chemistry through questions on Atomic Structure, Alcohols 7 Ethers, Carbonyl Compounds, Electrochemistry, Isomerism in Organic Compounds, etc. Biology section may test the candidate through questions on Cell & Molecular Biology, Human & Plant Physiology, Reproduction, Environment, Genetics & Evolution, etc. Questions on Algebra, Matrices & Determinants, Calculus, Probability, 2D &3D Geometry, etc may test the candidate’s Mathematical knowledge. The candidate’s vocabulary, grammar and comprehension ability will be tested in the English section.

VITEEE 2017 Slot-Booking:

The VITEEE 2017 Slot-booking is going to take place in the third week of March 2017. Candidates will be required to confirm their test date, time slot and test centre of their choice within one minute on the official portal of VITEEE. The slot booking will be done on first cum first serve basis and no modification will be allowed after the booking is confirmed. The slot booking is expected to go on for a week.

VITEEE 2017 Admit Card:

The admit cards for VITEEE 2017 will be made available to the candidates at the time of the slot booking itself. Candidates will receive an official intimidation regarding the availability of the admit cards on their registered email-id from VIT University. An e-Admit card will also be made available to registered candidates on successful completion of their slot-booking. All candidates are required to carry their admit cards on the day of their examination and also during the time of their counseling. Candidates without an admit card will not be allowed to appear for VITEEE exam or for the counseling.

VITEEE 2017 Results:

The results for VITEEE 2017 are going to be announced on or before April 24, 2017 on the official website of VIT University. The university will intimidate the students about the announcements of results via SMS. Candidates will have to enter the desired information to be able to view their results. The VIT University will use ‘Equipercentile Equating’ method to arrive on the results of VITEEE.

VITEEE 2017 Counselling Dates:

The counseling schedule for VITEEE 2017 is expected to be held in the second/ third week of May 2017.  The counseling procedure will be carried out in two phases at Chennai as well as Vellore campus. Candidates will be called for counseling as per their VITEEE rank. All candidates will have to carry the documents listed by VIT University at the time of counseling to ensure admission.
