Gemmology is the art of identifying and evaluating gemstones. In today's world, it has become a science and profession dealing with precious and semi-precious stones. A branch of mineralogy, it is considered as a geoscience. Jewellery designing requires great aesthetic sense, illustration skill, technical skill, familiarity with chemistry, alloy and a comfort level with maths for the chemical equations & is taught at design schools.
