The Government Model High School and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20-D work as experimental schools for the college  Government College of Education, previously known as Government Post-Graduate Basic Training College, was founded in August 1954 under a special scheme of Government of India in the Second Five-Year Plan for establishment of training colleges for teachers at the post-graduate level. The College has great tradition of high achievements in the field of teacher education and ranks among the leading colleges of education in the country.

College offers Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) course. It's an one year training programme.
Admission Criteria:

Admission in the B.Ed. course is subject based. At the time of admission each candidate shall opt for two teaching subjects. A candidate can opt for only those teaching subjects, which he/she has studied at graduation/post-graduation level. Candidates who have passed additional subjects at graduation level must ensure that they are opting only those teaching subjects marks of which are taken into account for the purpose of calculating the percentage of marks at the graduation level. Admission to B.Ed. is done through Joint Entrance Test conducted by Punjab University, Chandigarh.

College is well equipped with all modern facilities.

Hostel
There are two hostels one each for boys and girls. There are two wardens and one Nurse. Approximately each hostel has 14 rooms equipped with spacious Almira's. Four, Five students can stay in each room of the hostel. Each hostel has residential capacity of about 65 students.
Laboratory
Science Lab, HOme Science Lab Computer Lab Language Lab labs are equipped with latest equipments.
Extra - Curricular
College Annual Athletic Meet is being held on 18th and 19th February 2010.
Library
The library is housed in double story building in separate wing with the sitting capacity of 200 students. The library has 35,910 books including reference collection- encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, reports and surveys.
