And if you are ready to spend 10 months in a village. Personally, I learned a lot and improved my skills greatly in the 10 months here. Please understand this is not a course that will teach you to speak in front of the camera in pretty clothes or be a "travel journalist" (travel journalists are just real journalists who write about tourism. they still need to know about the economics and politics of travel. The rest are just lucky bloggers). You will be grilled with assignments and reporting in all weather situations. It's okay if you are not a great writer or a reporter with zero experience before the course. What is important is that you should be prepared to learn and improve yourself over the time that you spend here. yes, it does feel like a Big Boss house sometimes when you have to see the same faces for months on end. But the skills you gain in writing, reporting and understanding journalism as a whole are priceless. Even if your final goal is to be a feature writer this place will effectively train you to do much more. You might think that you like to report only certain topics but the course will introduce you to a lot more issues and change your choices. Just remember to come with an open mind and a will to learn. You will not be disappointed by what you see in the mirror 10 months down the line. Hostel is decent, food is mediocre but it certainly has never made even sick. Most importantly, the faculty is always at hand for a chat about anything troubling you. They will however expect you to give 110% effort at your job. Remember that you will always be treated as independent adults so there are no restrictions on your personal or public life but that also means you have to clean up your shit when you get into trouble.

Although there are many skills I learnt here that I didn't have an idea about before, I realised after my internship in December that there is nothing to be learnt here that one cannot learn on the job- but that goes for every journalism course in India. For this course specifically, it is too expensive for the designed curriculum: the softwares used are mostly all outdated and not preferred in the real world, the campus is quite poor in terms of resources, and it is located way outside the city (which makes it difficult to do reporting assignments). But having said that, there are some excellent teachers who know their job inside out and have been journalists for years. If not for their teaching skills, their experience alone makes it worthwhile to attend their class. But of course, there are other teachers here who have never really done much journalistic work and take classes that you get nothing out of. Oh and the dean- the dean of the college never comes on campus. Mr. George is as far removed from journalism as Sachin Tendulkar is from journalism, so yeah, he never comes on campus. Some courses here are really well designed, like the law and liberal arts course. But again, they can be learnt online as well. All in all, this place is for somebody who only wants to pursue hardcore English journalism, and even then actually, they can learn everything taught here over a long internship at a good newspaper, especially because the diploma certificate here doesn't mean much. But if you want a degree badly and you can afford it, this is not that bad a place to learn the art.

Faculty

The faculty here is exceptionally well read and distinguished. Students are taught practically more than theoretical.
