
IIT Kharagpur or IIT KGP is an autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institute established by the Government of India. The Parliament of India passed an act known as the Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur), Act declaring this Institute as an Institute of national importance.
Infrastructure Overview: IIT Kharagpur has well equipped with all the modern facilities.
Hostel Details: The institute is fully residential. Students are accommodated in 18 Halls of Residence and the staff is provided with quarters. Accommodation for visitors is arranged in the Technology Guest House, CEC Guest House, Alumni Guest House or CTS Visitors Hall, or if need arises, in a students' Hall of Residence.
Laboratory Details:IIT Kharagpur has 19 academic departments, 8 multi-disciplinary centres/schools, and 13 schools of excellence in addition to laboratories and central research facilities. IIT KGP has Advanced VlSI lab, The Lab was able to procure state-of-the-art test equipment from a special grant provided by the institute.
Library Details:Central Library serves the academic needs of about 5000 UG and PG students and research scholars, nearly 500 faculty members and about 1500 technical, administrative and medical staff of our institute. Besides its services are extended to a number of other organizations also. The Library resources stand at about 3,00,000 volumes including books, back- volumes of periodicals, micro forms, video forms, theses, patents and standards. The journal subscription goes beyond 1000. While all journal subscriptions are available in the present form, some are available in CD ROM form also.
Extra Curricular Details:IIT Kharagpur organises a techno-management festival known as Kshitij. It is the biggest techno-management festival of Asia with a total budget of around 50 lakh. Events include technical workshops, seminars, and competitions. Robotix, the annual robotics competition held by IIT Kharagpur, is organised during Kshitij.
