I extend a warm welcome to all students joining Janki Devi Memorial College. JDMC, a premier women's college, University of Delhi, will continue to make a difference in the lives of young women who study here while promoting education for "Global Citizenship". It is our sincere effort to help students realize their talents. Our mission is to promote enduring knowledge with Indian roots but global significance in a constantly evolving academic environment where students are challenged and inspired to pursue advanced studies in the Liberal Arts, Humanities and Commerce. With a commitment to connecting college education to the concerns of the world, JDMC strives to develop in its students the capacity to think, lead and change the world. JDMC was founded to empower women to control their lives, to meet their practical needs and to shape the world through education.
To me, economic empowerment is of central concern, as it makes women independent and enables them to earn self esteem. At JDMC, we will continue to empower our students academically, while teaching them to live in harmony with the environment. The college has a Women's Development Centre and Women's Studies Resource Centre in the Library to provide data on women's studies.
We offer a highly competent and committed faculty of over 100 teachers and have more than 2000 students. The college has three well-equipped computer laboratories, modern office complex, and a computerized library with one lakh books and 100 journals. It also has a newly renovated open air auditorium equipped with the latest acoustics and lighting system; a large cafeteria; a newly upgraded multipurpose / audio-visual hall, staff room, department rooms, in addition to class rooms and common room for students. The bank and photocopy centre on the premises are a great convenience to the students. To improve the educational experience of our students, we are in the midst of further improving our facilities.
Apart from academics, students participate in numerous activities which include dramatics, music, dance, sports and community service. Janki Devi Vocational Centre offers certificate courses in many vocational subjects, along with Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board, which holds classes for women on sundays and during vacations.
In the fifth decade of its existence, the college plans to further reinforce the Gandhian philosophy of responsible citizenship and empowerment of women in which our founder believed. The college is dedicated to giving the society intelligent, informed, socially responsible, independent and confident women who take pride in their cultural heritage. I would like to see every woman who passes through the portals of JDMC emerge as a fully developed individual and become a valuable member of the world community.
