Irsquo;ve been told a PG diploma can fetch a good job in a short time with lower investment. Which will be better in Canada - a PG diploma or an MS degree?

I am a B.Tech (computer science) student. I want to go abroad for my Masters in computers. I’ve been told a PG diploma can fetch a good job in a short time with lower investment. Which will be better in Canada - a PG diploma or an MS degree? — Kawaljeet Singh

The choice between a PG diploma and MS degree in Canada depends on what area of work you wish to take up. Generally, the PG diploma course is more job-oriented, while the MS programme is more academic. Moreover, the degree requires two years of study against one or maybe two years for the PG diploma, but it also could include an internship built into the curriculum. Canada offers hundreds of programmes in computer science and information technology areas of specialisation, with more than 170 universities and institutes to choose from. Also, depending on the length of the course you pursue in Canada, you can get a work permit for up to three years after completing it. Check www.educationau-incanada.ca for more information related to education in Canada. Usha Albuquerque

Kawaljeet - its really not that easy to get job just after completing the PG diploma in Canada- Canda job market is very tough and very limited jobs are there. You might be a lucky person if you get job immediately after completing the course - but chance are less. MS Degree has more scope than Diploma and lot depends on the university where you study as not all universities of Canada are good. So think again and do proper groundwork before you actually finalize the course. All the best -Rajeev Jain, **********1
