CLAT 2017 Overview

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination conducted by seventeen National Law Universities for admission to undergraduates and post-graduates (LLB and LLM) degree programmes.

The CLAT Core Committee made a decision that the test will be conducted by various NLUs in a rotation, in order of their establishment.

CLAT 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for CLAT 2017 for UG programmes:

Educational Qualification

Candidates should have passed 10+2 or equivalent in any discipline with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST students) from a recognised board. Students appearing in qualifying examination are also eligible for CLAT 2017.

Age Limit

Applicants should be below 20 years as on July 1, 2017 (22 years in the case of SC/ST and PwD candidates).

Eligibility for CLAT 2017 for PG programmes:

Educational Qualification:

Aspirants must have completed a three year LLB OR five-year Integrated LLB OR any other degree in the field of law from a recognised university with minimum 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST students).


There is no upper age limit to appear in the CLAT 2017.

CLAT 2017 Application Details

The registration for CLAT 2017 can be done via online mode only, on the official website of CLAT.

The applicants are required to visit the official website of CLAT 2017 i.e. and click on the tab "Apply Online" on the upper right corner of the website.

Click on the "Register Yourself" button to sign up by filling up the required information in the registration form.

If already registered, click on the other tab "Already Registered" to redirect to the login page.

Now, login to the page and fill up the online application form, upload your recent photograph, signature and other documents.

Pay the application fee by using (Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card etc.).

Once the payment is done, download the admit card.

CLAT Exam Pattern

The CLAT 2017 exam will be a computer-based examination for the duration of two hours. The medium of the examination will be English.

CLAT 2017 Counselling/Interview

The online counselling will be held after the declaration of CLAT Result 2017.  CLAT qualified students are advised to specify their choice of preferred NLUs through online counselling window which will be available on the CLAT website. This segment tests the general awareness of the students.

This section tests the knowledge of Elementary Mathematics up to 10th standards.

This segment evaluates students' interest towards the study of law and problem-solving ability.

Logical Reasoning

This section checks students' logical aptitude and how s/he tackles the situation.
