Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) - Mechanical Engineering is an all-India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to Post Graduation/Ph.D. courses in Engineering and Architecture.
GATE 2017 will be organised by Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) on February 4, 5, 11 and 12, 2017 (Saturdays and Sundays).

GATE (Mech) 2017 Eligibility Criteria
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear for GATE:
Candidates having Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes are eligible for GATE exam.
Applicants completed Master degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes can also apply.
Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE (I), AMICE (I) by the Institute of Civil Engineer (India)-ICE (I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech Those who have completed section A or an equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

Candidates can apply online for GATE examination by visiting the official website of GATE 2017. Candidates will need to register by providing valid Email ID and Mobile Number. After registration, a system generated Enrolment ID will be sent to the Email address provided by the applicant.
GATE (Mech) 2017 Exam Pattern
GATE (Mech) Feb 2017 Exam Pattern
GATE exam pattern will be divided into two parts i.e. Part I - General Aptitude (GA) which is common for all the GATE papers and Part II that is based on the specialisation.
GATE exam duration is 3 hours. The question paper will be containing both multiple choice questions and numerical answer type questions.
GATE (Mech) 2017 Counselling/Interview
There will be Centralised Counselling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan (CCMT) held.
GATE (Mech) 2017 Exam Syllabus
There will be 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions will be carting 15 marks are in General Aptitude (GA). Questions in GA will be based in A) Verbal Ability and B) Numerical Ability.
