Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is an all India level engineering entrance exam which is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). JEE Main is required to take admission to engineering courses in the esteemed IITs, NITs, IIITs, deemed universities and other centrally funded technical institutions.

JEE Main is conducted in two parts i.e. Paper I and Paper II. Paper I (B.E./B. Tech.) will be conducted in both Computer-based (Online) and Paper-Pen based (Offline) mode while Paper II (B. Arch./B. Planning) will be conducted in Pen-Paper based mode only.

Candidates, willing appear for JEE Advanced 2017 will first have to qualify JEE Main 2017. 

However, the applications of JEE Main 2017 will release from the first week of December 2017 and candidates are recommended to keep a regular check on the official website to avoid any miss.

JEE Main 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit:

Candidates born on or after October 01, 1992 are eligible to appear for JEE Main 2017 examination. There will be a relaxation of 5 years for the students belonging to SC, ST, and PwD category.

Educational Qualification:

For B.E/ B. Tech:

Candidates must have qualified 12th standard with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate, whereas 10% of relaxation is given to SC/ST candidates, who need to present 65% of marks in 10+2 qualification. Also, 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics will be mandatory to be able to appear for JEE Mains 2016 along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.

For B.Arch./ B. Planning:

The applicant must have studied Mathematics as the main subject along with 50% marks in total including five subjects from a recognised board.

According to the recent amendment, Class XII marks will not be given any weightage for final selections in JEE.

JEE Main 2017 Application Details

The candidates can apply for JEE Main 2017 at online mode only. Applicants are required to fill up the requisite information, upload a scanned photograph, signature and thumb impression while filling up the online form. After submitting the details, an acknowledgement page will be generated. Applicant must take a print out of the page for further references.

(The acknowledgement page should not be sent to JEE Main office)

The application fee can be paid by credit/debit card or by depositing fee in cash in the Syndicate/ Canara/ ICICI/ HDFC bank through e-challan generated during the online filling of application form.

  • If the name is changed in the in the Class X certificate, then a certificate by gazette officer need to be submitted showing the change of name.

Overall Marks Distribution

The paper pattern of JEE Main 2016 was no different from previous years’ pattern. There were 90 multiple choice type questions carrying 4 marks each with one correct option. The JEE Main 2016 paper was of 360 marks divided into three sections. Each section had 30 questions of 120 marks.

JEE Main 2016 Section Wise Analysis

Physics:

Two questions in Physics section had more than one correct answers.

Mathematics:

Students found Mathematics section quite good, but a bit lengthy as well.

Chemistry:

According to the exam takers, the Chemistry section had more questions from Organic Chemistry as compared to other topics.

JEE Main 2017 Exam Syllabus

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main 2017) will be conducted by the JEE Apex Board for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes in NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), participating State Government Institutions etc.
 
For admission to NITs, CFTIs like IIITs etc. and other participating Institutions, the merit/rank list shall be prepared based on 40% weightage to school Boards marks in class 12th or equivalent examination and 60% weightage to IIT JEE (Main). The weightage to school Board/Equivalent examination marks shall be considered only after normalisation.
 
The IIT JEE (Main) will also be the eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITsISM Dhanbad.
 
JEE Mains 2017 shall have two papers, Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) and Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.). Depending upon the course(s) candidates are seeking admission, they may take Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.), or Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.), or both.
 
 
Number of Attempts

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).

Of all the sections in JEE Main 2017 , physics was the most difficult and according to me, any number of attempts between 10-12 will be good for physics section.
