MAT or Management Aptitude Test is a national level entrance examination for admission to management courses across several colleges in India. MAT is conducted four times in a year, in the months of February, May, September and December. MAT exam is conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA) which is an apex body of management which has been organising a lot of management related activities and initiatives such as Distance Management Education, Management Development Programmes, Special Conferences, Research & Publications, Testing Services and Competitions. Centre for Management Services (CMS) is the special division of AIMA that undertakes testing and other management services. It conducts the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) that has been approved by the Ministry of HRD as a National Entrance Test. Candidates now can choose to take either the Paper Based Test or the Computer Based Test.

MAT 2017 will be an objective type of test which will test the candidate’s capability in 5 areas i.e. data analysis, language, critical reasoning, mathematics and Indian current affairs. MAT exam will be conducted in both the mode i.e. offline and online on 3rd and 9th September, 2017 respectively. The result of MAT September 2017 is expected to be announced in the last week of September.

MAT 2017 Eligibility Criteria

According to AIMA norms, MAT eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • The minimum qualification taking MAT is graduation in any discipline from any recognised University or equivalent recognised degree.
  • A final year student in any undergraduate (i.e. B.A, B.Sc., B.Com., B.Tech., etc.) can also appear provisionally.
  • There is no age limit for taking MAT
  • Work Experience is not compulsory
  • Usually, there is a minimum percentage requirement in graduation, which is different for different institutions.

MAT 2017 Application Details

MAT 2017 registration process has started from July 1. Aspiring and eligible candidates can apply in both the modes i.e. online and offline. Applicants who want to apply offline can get application form of MAT 2017 from designated study centres or head office of AIMA. To register online, the candidates will have to fill their personal, education, work experience and other details in the MAT application form. The last date to fill MAT registration form offline and online is August 23 and 25, 2017 respectively.

Application fees detail

If a candidate is applying online then he/she has to pay the MAT 2017 registration fee through Credit Card/Debit Card (ATM Card) / Net Banking. If a candidate wants to register offline then the payment will be done through Demand Draft. In the case of Offline Registration, candidates will have to collect the MAT bulletin and CD from the AIMA centre based in New Delhi. The fee is payable via Net Banking, Debit card, Credit card or using a Demand Draft.

MAT Exam Pattern

MAT exam is an objective type test with multiple-choice answers and is usually of 2.5 hours duration. The test is designed to measure a person’s general aptitudes and has the following sections:-

MAT 2017 Counselling/Interview

MAT September 2017 result will be declared by AIMA by the last week of September. Candidates can check the result on the official website of AIMA. Candidates will have to login to their student account for checking their result. MAT results will be published in the form of section wise score card. Marking for all the sections of MAT Exam 2017 will be given on that score card separately.

On the basis of MAT 2017 result, all the MAT participating colleges will determine and declare their individual MAT 2017 cutoff marks. Candidates who will get the minimum cutoff score will be called for the further admission rounds. Cutoffs are the minimum qualifying marks required for getting admission into MBA colleges accepting the MAT score. It will differ from college to college and also for categories of students. Candidates will be shortlisted for GD/PI rounds on the basis of their score secured in this MAT exam and clearing the cutoff scores.

Personal Interview will be the significant part of the MAT admission procedure and should be taken seriously. Candidates will be assessed on the basis of their thinking process, future goals, interpersonal skills etc.

MAT Counselling and selection procedure will differ from college to college. Colleges accepting MAT scores will declare the cutoff and will conduct the MAT selection procedure. It will include the personal interview, group discussion and writing ability test. Some of the colleges accepting MAT scores may conduct all the three rounds and some others may not. Most of the institutes give importance to WAT as they think, it is an easy way to judge the writing skills of the candidate.

The final admission list of the colleges will be declared on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entire MAT 2017 selection procedure.
