The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC), conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET). The test is required to regulate the eligibility for the posts of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor both in Indian universities and in colleges. This year CBSE will conduct the UGC NET 2018 on July 08, 2018 in 84 subjects in 91 NET examination cities across the country. Candidates who successfully clear the exam will be eligible to pursue research in their post-graduation subject as well as for Assistant Professor. UGC NET 2018 will open the gates of various universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations for the JRF awardees to pursue their research. The award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor will completely depend on candidates’ performance in three UGC NET exams.

Candidates applying for UGC NET 2018 must know that the role of CBSE is limited to conducting the exam and releasing the result. The responsibility of issuing e-certificates to the successful candidates lies with the UGC NET Bureau. In case of any problems or queries related to certificates, qualified candidates are advised to contact Head, UGC NET Bureau, University of Delhi, South Campus.

UGC NET 2018 application process for the exam scheduled to be conducted in July 2018 will start from March 06, 2018. CBSE released UGC NET 2018 notifications on February 01, 2018 on its official website. The last date to submit duly filled UGC NET 2018 online application form is April 05, 2018. Those interested in taking the same should fill the UGC NET application form before the last date.

UGC NET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants who wish to apply for UGC NET 2018 should first check the eligibility criteria. UGC NET 2018 eligibility criteria include an overview of the qualities the exam conducting body is looking for in the candidates. Candidates who meet all the conditions should only apply for the exam as the authorities can reject the application of the applicants who don’t meet eligibility criteria of UGC NET 2018.

Candidates should try to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. However, they can appear in a related subject if their post-graduation subject is not covered in the list of 84 subjects.

Candidates don’t need to send any documents or the printout of their Application Form to CBSE. 

Educational Qualification

The candidate should have passed a Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) from a UGC recognised university in any of the 100 subjects mentioned on the official website of CBSE UGC NET.

Students belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD category are required to have at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree are eligible for the test.

Those candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination or waiting for the results can also apply. However, they are required to complete their PG within two years from the date of NET result.

The PhD degree holders who have completed their Master’s degree by September 19, 1991, will be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in the aggregate marks.

Age

Junior Research Fellowship
Candidate should not be more than 30 years of age as on July 01, 2018. There is a relaxation of 5 years for women applicants and the candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ Transgender and PwD category.

  • Candidates having L.L.M. Degree are allowed for three years relaxation in age.
  • Candidates who have served in the armed forces will also get a relaxation of up to 5 years. 

Assistant Professor
There is no upper age limit for the candidates applying for the post of assistant professor.

UGC NET 2018 Eligibility Criteria for Transgender

Candidates from third gender (transgender) will get the same relaxation for age and qualification for UGC NET 2018 as given to SC/ST/PwD candidates.

UGC NET 2018 Application Details

Candidates can apply for UG NET 2018 exam only by filling the online application form. To be considered for the award of JRF and Assistant Professor, candidates filling the form should clearly specify whether they are applying for both JRF & Eligibility for Assistant Professor OR only for Assistant Professor. This is essential for the final selection as the rules and regulations for selection of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor differ from each other.

UGC NET 2018 Application Process

  • Candidates applying for CBSE UGC 2018 exam are required to visit the official website of the CBSE NET.
  • Fill up all the required information in the online application form
  • Upload the scanned copy of photograph and signature
  • After fillip up all the details, make a payment of examination fee through credit/debit card or through e-challan
  • Submit the application form and take a printout of the same for future reference

UGC NET 2018 Admit Card

CBSE will not send UGC NET 2018 Admit Cards by post or any other personal communication mode. Applicants need to download the admit cards from the official website of CBSE by providing their registration details. UGC NET 2018 Admit Cards will be uploaded by the authorities tentatively in the third week of June 2018, after which candidates will be able to download the same.

Application fees detail

UGC NET application forms 2018 will not be accepted until candidates pay the required fees. To make it easier for the candidates to pay the fee, CBSE has given multiple payment options. Applicants can pay the examination fee either by debit/credit card or through e-challan which needs to be generated while filling the application form.  Those making payment through e-challan need to visit any branch of Syndicate, Canara or ICICI Bank.

An additional processing charge will be debited form the accounts of candidates making payment through debit/credit card.

  • Credit card: - 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable.
  • Debit Card: - 0.75% of examination fee plus the service tax as applicable

  • Fee once paid will not be refunded in any condition.

UGC NET 2018 will have two papers with objective type questions. Both the exams will be conducted in two separate sessions on the same day. Candidates need to clear all the exams to qualify for the final selection.

  • Part I will have 50 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of 2 marks each. The questions will be based on general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. This part comprises questions on reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness. 
  • Part II will have 100 objective type compulsory questions, which will be based on the subject selected by the candidates. Questions in these exams also carry 2 marks each.
  • As per the change introduced this year, Paper II from this year will include all the questions that used to be asked in Paper II and Paper III.
  • There is no negative marking for wrong answers. 

UGC NET 2018 Exam Syllabus

UGC NET 2018 syllabus includes 84 subjects. Candidates can download complete UGC NET 2018 syllabus from the official website of UGC. The syllabus of NET subjects is also available in Indian Universities.

Note: CBSE won’t send UGC NET 2018 syllabus to individual candidates.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Centres

Candidates applying for UGC NET 2018 exam are allowed to select four cities for their NET 2018 examination center. The governing body will try to allot city their choice, but there is no assurance of getting the same examination centre. Candidates can also be allotted a different city in some nearby area based on the availability of the seats. The exam conducting authority can also add or remove examination centres from the list.
