B.Sc. in Aviation (B.Sc. AV) is an undergraduate course designed to study the science and operations involved in flying aeroplanes, gliders, helicopters, etc. The course deals with the management fundamentals in aviation, such as cabin crew staffing, airline ticketing, flight attendants, aircraft financing, airport security and ground staff handling to name a few.

B.Sc in Aviation Course Structure

B.Sc. in Aviation helps students to understand, learn and use the science of aviation and operation of aircraft for a successful career. In order to obtain the Aviation degree, it is mandatory for students to have a Commercial Pilot License (CPL). To obtain a CPL, students will be required to complete a minimum of 200 hours of flying. In the last semester, instead of flying hours, students will be required to opt for a Project.

The course delivery methods include lectures, flying and simulation training and assignments. In the final assessment, students are graded on semester exams, flying hours and project work.

B.Sc in Aviation Eligibility Criteria

  •          To be eligible for B.Sc. in Aviation, a candidate must have passed Class 10th with a minimum aggregate of 50 percent in all subjects, from a recognised board.
  •          A candidate must have passed Class 10+2 with a minimum aggregate of 50 percent with English, Physics and Mathematics as the main subjects.
  •          A candidate who has post-SSC passed three-year Engineering / Technology Diploma with Mathematics and Physics is eligible.
  •          A candidate who has post-HSC passed Diploma in Information Technology / Computer Technology / Computer Engineering / Computer Science / Electrical, Electronics & Video Engineering & allied branches / Mechanical & allied branches / Chemical & allied branches / Civil & allied branches, from AICTE or a government, recognised body is also eligible.
  •          Candidates must also possess a Class II Medical Certificate from Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved Medical doctor for flying hours.
  •          For a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) – the candidate should have a valid current CPL with Class I Medical Certificate from DGCA Medical centres.


The admission to the program is based on marks scored in 10+2 and the personal interview by college/university. The admission forms for B.Sc. in Aviation are available between the months of May and June. The application forms are available both online and offline on the various college/university websites.

Certain universities may require students to submit Class 10th, Class 12th certificates and other relevant educational certificates with their application form. It is a routine procedure required by universities to prepare the merit list (for the selection). Candidates are required to go through the prospectus thoroughly and read all the instructions carefully before applying and submitting the admission form.

The selection for the course is based on the merit list prepared by the college/university. Some institutions conduct a personal interview to shortlist candidates who have made the merit list. Final admission is made after successfully qualifying the interview.

1. Aircraft Maintenance

Aircraft Maintenance is important for the safety of aircraft. An aircraft maintenance engineer is essential to approve if a particular aircraft is in ideal conditions to fly or not.

  •  Structures – The course deals with producing, maintaining, modifying and repairing aircraft using specialise skills such as sheet metal fabrication and bonding of metallic and composite structures. It also includes constructing everything from aerofoils to interior components, working with hi-tech materials such as carbon fibre, Kevlar and aluminium alloys. Students who choose to specialise in structures will later be able to produce, maintain, modify and repair aircraft using the acquired skills.

2. Aviation Management

A degree in Aviation Management provides individuals with the necessary learning to oversee the departments of airlines and airports. Specialisation in management prepares students for look after aviation maintenance in the aviation industry. From safety to taking care of the passenger needs, everything is included in the management course.

Students are taught organisation skills, leadership qualities and how to work under pressure.
