Snapshot About the Exam

National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Test (NIPER) is required for taking admission in institutes offering post graduate programs like MS (Pharm), M.Pharm, M.Tech (Pharm) and MBA (Pharm) . There is a common entrance exam for all the programmes, which is conducted in a number of cities across India. While admission to M.S. Pharm, M.Tech Pharm and M.Pharm programmes are based only on the entrance exams, admission to MBA (Pharm) is based on a Written Test followed by a Personal Interview and Group Discussion.

Details

The duration of the entrance test is of 2 hours consisting of 200 Multiple Choice Questions. The questions are from the syllabus of B. Pharma and M.Sc (Relevant Field). There is negative marking of 25% for every incorrect answer. Candidates can obtain the application forms in person or by post by sending a request for the form to NIPER, Mohali on submission of a non refundable bank draft of Rs. 1000 (Rs. 500 for ST/ ST) payable at S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali)/Chandigarh in favour of ‘NIPER-JEE 2010’ along with two duly typed self-addressed Slips with name (10 cms X 6 cms). Please note payments through cheque/ postal order will not be accepted. Those acquiring information by post should clearly mention the name of the programme in application and on top of the envelope carrying the request letter.

Candidates have to send the complete form along with copies of their NET/GATE scorecard. Candidates who are obtaining their application form through post have to follow certain important advice. The candidates should write the entire letter in their own handwriting and should provide a specimen of their signature in the letter as well as at the back side of the Demand Draft.  The candidates should also provide their respective registration number along with the requisite letter.

Eligibility
  • A candidate should have done B.Pharm/M.Sc (in relevant disciplines) /B.Tech (Chemical Engineering) /B.V.Sc./ MBBS/BAMS or equivalent with at least 60% aggregate or equivalent.
  • The candidate should have valid scores in GATE/NET for several disciplines. The eligibility criteria for different programmes vary in terms of the qualifying degree therefore refer to the admission notification for details. Those in their final year can also apply.
  • Candidates at the 10+2 level should earn a minimum of 55% and should be from a science background at this level. Candidates should have a minimum CGPA of 6.75 (or 60% Marks) for General, 6.25 (or 55% Marks) for SC / ST, 5.75 (or 50% Marks) for physically handicapped (PH) candidates on a 10 point scale in the qualifying examination and also have valid GPAT/GATE NET qualification.
How To Prepare
  • There is no official syllabus prescribed by NIPER institute for the entrance examination. Some coaching centres are available to train for NIPER. Their subject matter and model question papers help to review the subject and practice time management .Competition tests and solving model questions papers are some of the techniques of  preparation. Even though candidates are not able to afford the cost of coaching, they can secure a good rank in NIPER entrance if they plan and prepare accordingly.

  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and bio-chemistry are required to answer the questions. Entire spectroscopy and chromatographic techniques should be covered (UV-Visible, NMR, IR, Mass, XRD, Fluorimetry, HPLC, GC, LCMS). Thorough knowledge on interpretation of IR and NMR peak is required. Also there is a need to know about the recent drug molecule approved by USFDA and names of the scientists who made some important discoveries or inventions. Simple mathematics, logical questions, questions based on English language is the pattern usually followed. Students who can answer these types of questions will definitely have an edge over other students. Lastly, efficient time management by answering the questions correctly in the limited time available will ultimately lead to success in NIPER entrance examination.
