Established in the year 1926, Andhra University is a public university that is located on a campus of 171 hectares. The university is one of the oldest educational institutions in the country and the first to be conceived as a residential and teaching-cum-affiliating university. Andhra University is mainly devoted to postgraduate teaching and research. The university was constituted by the Madras Act of 1926. The 82-year-old university is affiliated to AICTE and UGC. The university is also accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC. The reservation policy as laid down by the Government of Andhra Pradesh is followed by the university. The university reserves 85% of the seats for local candidates and 33.33% seats for women candidates.

Andhra University offers a number of undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate and diploma programmes in Arts & Commerce, Engineering, Law, Science & Technology and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Andhra University UG Admission

Andhra University offers admission to an ample number of undergraduate programmes in the fields of engineering & technology, law, arts & commerce, pharmaceutical sciences and education. Some of the undergraduate programmes offered by Andhra University are Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Computer Applications, Bachelor of Sciences, Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Pharmacy, etc. To be eligible for admission to undergraduate programmes offered by the university, the applicants must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with minimum qualifying marks. For admissions to undergraduate programmes like B.Tech, the university conducts its own entrance examination. Admissions to other programmes like BA/ B.Sc. are done based on the score obtained in the qualifying examination. Eligibility Criteria for Undergraduate Programmes:

Bachelor of Architecture: Candidates applying for admission to B.Arch. programmes must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination or IB diploma on a regular basis, in the first attempt with English and Maths as compulsory subjects. Candidates must have score minimum 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination. Candidates awaiting their 10+2 examination results can also apply.
BFA: Candidates applying for admission to BFA programme must have passed the HSC or 10+2 examination or equivalent examination from a recognized board.

Bachelor of Law: Candidates applying for LLB programme must have passed any graduate degree examination of 10+2+3 format and secured a minimum of 45% marks. The graduation degree must have been passed from a recognized university or board. The candidates who have secured less than 45% marks in graduate degree must also possess a post-graduate degree. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category are provided 5% relaxation in the aggregate marks.

Bachelor of Education: Candidates applying for admission to Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme must have passed B.A./ B.Sc. or an equivalent degree at the graduate level in a relevant discipline. The candidates must have scored minimum 45% marks in the bachelor’s degree examination.

Bachelor of Engineering (B.E. Programme): The university offers admission to a bachelor of engineering programmes in Civil Engineering, Civil Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical, Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. To be eligible for admission to Bachelor of Engineering programme, the candidates must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks for general category and minimum 45% marks for reserved category in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The candidates appearing for 10+2 examination are also eligible to apply for admission to B.E. programme.

Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.): Andhra University offers admission to B.Tech programme in Computer Science & Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering with Petro-Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering with Ceramic Technology, Bio-Technology, Geo-Informatics and Instrumentation Engineering. To be eligible for admission to B.Tech. the programme, the candidates must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination with a minimum average of 50% marks for general category and minimum 45% marks for reserved category. Candidates who are appearing for 10+2 examination are also eligible to apply.

Admission Process for Undergraduate Programmes:
B.E./ B.Tech. Admissions to B.E./ B.Tech. programmes are done on the basis of merit in Andhra University Engineering Entrance Test (AUEET 2017).

B.Ed.Candidates who have applied for B.Ed. the programme will be shortlisted based on Ed. CET 2018 i.e. Education Common Entrance Test conducted on behalf of AP State Council of Higher Education.

BFA – Candidates applying for BFA programme will be shortlisted on the basis of AP LAWCET 2017 (AP Law Common Entrance Test).
B.Arch. – candidates applying for admission to B.Arch. programme are selected on the basis of score obtained in National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA).

MBA/ PGDM: Candidates who have applied for admission to Master of Business Administration/ Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programmes must have obtained bachelor degree of minimum three years in relevant discipline with least 50% aggregate marks for candidates belonging to general category and 45% marks for candidates belonging to SC/ST category. The applicants must have passed the qualifying examination with mathematics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level.

Master of Computer Applications: Candidates applying for admission to MCA programme must have obtained a bachelor degree in relevant discipline. Candidates belonging to general category must have scored minimum 50% marks and the ones belonging to SC/ST category must have scored 45% marks in aggregate.

Admission Process for Postgraduate Programmes:

MBA/ PGDM: Admissions to MBA/ PGDM programmes are done based on the scored obtained in Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test (AIPCET 2017).

MCA: Candidates who have applied for admission to MCA programme will be shortlisted on the basis of score obtained in Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test (AIPCET 2017).

Andhra University M.Phil and Ph.D. Admission

Andhra University offers admission to Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in part-time and full-time modes. Admissions to M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes are done based on merit in Andhra University Research Common Entrance Test (AURCET 2017). The application forms for admission to M.Phil. and Ph.D. programme can be submitted online as well as offline.

Eligibility Criteria for M.Phil/ Ph.D. Programmes:

Full Time – Candidates who have applied for admission to M.Phil/ Ph.D. full-time programme must have obtained a postgraduate degree with at least 55% aggregate marks for general category. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category must have scored at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in the concerned subject or in an allied subject or any other postgraduate degree.

Part Time – Candidates applying for admission to M.Phil/ Ph.D. part-time programme must have obtained a post-graduate degree with at least 55% marks for general category and minimum 50% marks for SC/ST category or equivalent CGPA in the relevant discipline.

Sports

Andhra University Physical Education Department was established on 27th August 1927. 'Compulsory Physical training and regular medical inspection of all the students should be introduced in all the affiliated colleges' was adopted as a resolution on this day.

A significant advancement was shown in the field of games as per the GIC report.

Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences was given a new nomenclature in 2014 and many subjects that were imparted to students of master’s course were based on sports as well along with social sciences. The Department was renamed as the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences after this date.

The Andhra University Library began its journey in the year 1927 and it covers two branch Libraries namely Engineering College and Law College. The total plinth area of the building is about 60,000 sqft and the main functionaries of the Library are the Circulation, Binding, Periodicals, Reference, Acquisition, and Computers sections. The Library has a huge collection of books and about 17000 users. There are important journals, e-journals, palm leaf manuscript, microfilms, and paper and it works as a huge knowledge base for the students, teachers, research scholars, and R&D wings of local industries such as Simhadri Power Project, Bharat Heavy plates & Vessels, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, Indian Navy and its several establishments, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Coramandel Fertilisers, Hindustan Zink Ltd, etc.
