More about Indian Institute of Chemical Technology

The CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) is among the oldest National Laboratories under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. The institute had started as the Central Laboratories for Scientific & Industrial Research (CLSIR) by the then princely State of Hyderabad in the year 1944. It comes under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The leading research institute pioneers in the area of chemistry and chemical technology, providing solutions to challenges faced by Government Departments, Industry and Entrepreneurs through basic and applied research, and process development.

In 2010-11, CSIR had come to a conclusion to add ‘CSIR’ to all labs to confirm better recognition and visibility. Thus, IICT is known as CSR-IICT. IICT is internationally recognized for its contributions to chemistry research and its clientele are from all over the world. The analytical services of the institute are accredited by TUV, Germany for ISO-9001. It has collaborations with countries like UK, Germany, Australia, Japan, USA, Italy, France and Korea, amongst others.

The ongoing research and development programs of IICT includes the discovery of new drugs, while also concentrating on other fields like peptidomimetics, molecular chemistry, novel drug delivery systems, fluoro-organic synthesis, etc. Over 150 technologies developed by the institute needed for human welfare are now in commercial production.

CSIR-IICT boasts its pool of scientists and PhD students totalling above 700 who are now high-quality researchers of global standard. Enrolment of students for Ph.D programs at CSIR-IICT remains open throughout the year. The research institute offers opportunities:

• To science and engineering graduates/postgraduates for research in the engineering, chemical, biological, and allied disciplines leading to Ph.D Degree.

M.Tech Degree in Chemical Engineering which can be extended to Ph. D program. The degree will be awarded by Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR).

Training to B.E./B.Tech/MSc/M.Tech. students for their final year project dissertation at CSIR-IICT.

Available College Facilities

The CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology has a green campus in the heart of the city of Hyderabad. The campus is well equipped with state of the art laboratories which have instrument and characterization facilities to carry out research programs. The campus also includes an auditorium, post office, bank branch, fire station, canteen, good hostel facility with an access to the internet. Playground and club are also provided for the recreation of students.



The hostel in the campus is a multi-storied building with all the amenities for both the researchers and students. Additionally, there are two Guest Houses as follows:

  1. ABHINANDAN Guest House which has 2 VIP suites and 10 air-conditioned rooms.
  2. ATITHI Guest House is a well-furnished guest house which has 4 VIP suites and 10 air-conditioned rooms.

IICT club caters to the needs of both indoor and outdoor sports enthusiasts. There is an elected Committee to take care of the club activities. The Cub conducts various events like tours, sports and competitions. The Club has a pool of facilities like:

CSIR-IICT campus has a state-of-the-art auditorium where seminars, conferences, farewells, symposiums, cultural programs and other such events take place. It is an air-conditioned facility with a seating capacity of about 600 people and also has wireless internet access.

The campus also includes the following:

  • Committee Room where meetings, recruitment-related interviews and video conferencing and other such things are conducted. It has a seating capacity of about 60 people and has Wi-fi Internet access and Overhead Projection facility for multimedia presentations. 
  • Museum hall is present to conduct meetings, interviews and displaying poster presentations. It has seating capacity for around 30 people.
  • New Lecture Hall is available for the staff member so as to conduct training sessions, group meetings and lectures.
Health Centre

IICT-CCMB Dispensary at the campus caters to the primary health care and medical facilities to the employees of the present and retired, their dependent family members as well as to students.

The centre includes about 30 employees and has the following facilities: 

  • Emergency ward with 10 beds 
  • Pharmacy and Medical record division
  • Medical Laboratory
  • Nursing Care unit
  • Pharmacy
  • Physiotherapy

Blood donations camps are organized frequently in association with Institute of preventive medicine (IPM) and Red cross society.


IICT departmental canteen caters to the needs of 1500 students and staff on all working days.
