Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) Admission 2017

Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) is a deemed university established in 1889. It is located in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. It offers masters and research-based programmes in veterinary and animals sciences, livestock products technology, basic sciences and extension education. The university also offers National diploma programme in various specializations, namely, National Diploma in Animal Husbandry (NDAH) Division of Animal Nutrition, National Diploma in Animal Reproduction (NDAR) Division of Animal Reproduction, National Diploma in Veterinary Biological Products (NDBP) Division of Biological Products, etc.

IVRI only offers M.V.Sc., whose admission is done on the basis of All India Entrance Test organized by Education Division, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Aspirants must have a valid ICAR examination scorecard to take admission.

Fifteen (15%) percent seats are reserved for scheduled caste, 7.5% seats for scheduled tribe, 27% seats for Other Backward category (OBC) and 3% for Physically Challenged (PH) candidate.

In case seat under SC/ST category seat is vacant due to non-availability of eligible SC/ST candidate, the seat will be interchangeable in a particular discipline amongst the eligible SC/ST candidates. Even after that if the seat is vacant in SC/ST category, it will not be filled from any other category candidates.

Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) has provision for extra-curricular activities. The institute encompasses playgrounds and necessary facilities like cricket, hockey, volleyball, etc. There’s a Student Sports Fund to which every student subscribes a sum of INR 200/- at the beginning of each academic year. The institute also has a dispensary located within the campus.

The institute also has a state of art computer centre with all the facilities for the students. A Course on Data Processing and Computer Application is offered to the P.G. students by the Centre. 

Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) M.V.Sc Admission

M.V.Sc is the only undergraduate programme offered by IVRI. Admission to this programme is done on the basis of performance in All India Entrance Test Organized by Education Division, Indian Council of Agriculture. All the aspirants, including sponsored (in-service) candidates need to appear for the exam.

The candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science with minimum 60% (55% for reserved category). The institute offers more than 20 specializations in M.V.Sc. programme.

Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) PhD Admission

The institute offers Ph.D. in Veterinary Sciences in various specializations to the aspirants who have an M.V.Sc. degree in the cognate discipline. 75% seats for Doctoral Programmes, including sponsored seats are to be filled on the basis of all India Entrance Examination conducted by the Institute and remaining 25% seats (subject to at least one seat for each discipline) will be filled-up on the basis of All India Competitive Examinations for award of ICAR’s Senior Research Fellowship [AICE-SRF {PGS}] conducted by Education Division, ICAR, New Delhi.

Minimum eligibility to get admission to Ph.D. programmes is to have minimum 65% marks in B.V.Sc. (60% for reserved categories). Minimum age limit for PhD candidates shall be 23 years at the time of admission. There will be no upper age limit.

Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) Application Process

Master Programme

Admission for MVSc programme will be held on the basis of all India Competitive Examination conducted by the Education Division, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. All the candidates including sponsored (in-service) for seeking admission to MVSc programme must have to appear in the written Examination.

All the seats at Masters' level are to be filled on the basis of combined examination for admissions and award of ICAR Junior Research Fellowships conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.

On the basis of merit and after counselling, ICAR finalizes the students for Post-Graduate degree programme (MVSc) in this university in 22 various disciplines.

Doctoral Programme

Advertisement inviting applications for admission is published in the first/second week of February/March every year in the newspapers and also on the official website of the Institute every year around the first/second week of February/March inviting applications for admission. The last date for receipt of applications shall generally be the first week of April every year or a date as may be specified from time to time by the University.

Admission in the PhD programme will be held on the basis of an all India Entrance Examination. The written entrance examination for admission to PhD courses is conducted by the University on All India basis at the following IVRI Campuses/Stations:

  • The candidates who fulfil the minimum qualifications are only eligible to appear in the competitive written examination.
  • Submission of application form for admission doesn’t guarantee for appearing in written examination for admission to the institute
  • The minimum qualifying marks in the competitive entrance examination for taking admission to PhD programme are as follows:

  • The merit list of the examination will be declared on the basis of marks obtained in the written examination. In case of a tie, admission will be given to the candidate on the basis of marks obtained in their MVSc degree and then BVSc degree. In case of a tie even in the above, the candidate older in age will be admitted.
  • The entrance examination in the subjects as per given choice will be of 2 hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions. The candidate will be given separate answer sheet to mark one correct answer out of four choices given. The candidate will have to return the Question Booklet and Answer Sheet after the end of examination to the Invigilators.
  • The final selection for admission to PhD degree programme for both fresh and sponsored candidates will be based on merit list prepared separately on the basis of marks obtained in the Entrance Examination and will be displayed on the official website of the institute
