The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Jammu & Kashmir was established through Act No. XVIII - dated 7th November 2005 - passed by J&K State Legislature and notified by the State Government.

Awantipora, the town in which the University is located is of historic significance as it was the capital of Kashmir during the reign of Raja Awantivarman. The campus has the Himalayan mountain range on one side and river Jhelum on the other and is full of beautiful almond groves. The Chancellor of the University is the Chief Minister of the state and the executive authority of the University is its Executive Council with the Vice Chancellors of the University of Jammu, University of Kashmir and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University as members.

IUST is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and its specified courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The University signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 20th October 2011 with Delhi University and University of Kashmir for mutual cooperation for the promotion of academic excellence. It has also signed a MoU with Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) Japan in order to achieve its common academic objectives.

The objective of the University as stated in the Act is “to disseminate and advance knowledge, wisdom and understanding and to offer Islamic, Scientific, technical and other education of highest standards by teaching and research and by examples and influence of its corporate life”.

Islamic University of Science & Technology transparently admits meritorious students from all the geographical regions of the State of Jammu & Kashmir. The application procedure is made easy to all the regions of the State and Country by providing an online facility for the submission of applications to the aspiring candidates. Instructions for online submission of the Application Form are as follows:

1. Candidate must read Admission Notification, instructions and refund procedure carefully before s/he starts filling the Application Form.

2. Candidate can apply for admission to a particular programme ‘ON-LINE’ only through official University websites www.islamicuniversity.edu.in and www.iustlive.com

3. Candidate must ensure that he/she is filling genuine Application Form available at the University website.

4. Candidate must ensure his/her eligibility as per the criteria laid down for admission to a particular programme.

The candidates seeking admission to the UG Programmes need to complete their 10+2 with a minimum of 45% marks in the relevant subject, from a recognised board. The candidate seeking admission to the PG programmes need to complete their graduation with a minimum of 45% marks in the relevant subject, from a recognised university.

The application fee for all the programmes except three-year engineering diploma courses shall be Rs. 1000/-. Candidates opting for payment/self -financing as one the choices shall have to pay an additional application fee of Rs. 500/-. Similarly, candidates opting for NRI seat as one the choices shall have to pay an additional application fee of Rs. 500/-. For three-year engineering diploma programmes, the candidates shall have to pay application fee of Rs. 300/-. Candidates opting for payment/self -financing and NRI seat shall have to pay an additional application fee of Rs. 300/- and Rs. 500/- respectively. Application Fee is not refundable under any circumstance(s).

IUST plays a lead role amongst all the Institutions in the State of J&K in terms of granting scholarships. The number of scholarships sanctioned for the IUST students is the highest amongst all the Educational Institutions of the J&K State. The University also offers Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme to economically backward meritorious students pursuing various programmes in Engineering & Technology, under the guidelines of AICTE. IUST remains in constant touch with various Government departments such as Ministry of HRD, Department of Social Welfare, Directorate of Tribal Affairs, State Advisory Board for the Development of Pahari speaking people and J&K State Board of School Education to have the maximum number of scholarships granted to its students.

Facilities provided by the University include Medical, Transport, 2 Hostels, Library, Bank, Sports fields, Internet connection etc.

Companies that regularly visit the campus for job placements in this University are KPMG, Yes Bank, Aries Agro, Fruit Master Agro, Kanwal, DFCPL, Dr. Lal PathLabs and Earth Infrastructures.

Available College Facilities

IUST provides two separate hostels, one-each for boys and girls in close vicinity of the campus. These hostels are provided with 24x7 power backupand suitable environment for studying as well as recreation. For allotment, preference is given to meritorious students from far-flung areas. The Hostel mess is run by students themselves with support from the University.


The University gives as much importance to sports as it does to academics. A Directorate of Physical Education has been established in the University which is functioning since 2009. Students are actively involved in football, cricket, volleyball, basketball and trekking and other sporting events at State as well as National level especially those organised by different organisations and universities of the country under the auspices Association of Indian Universities.


The IUST library serves as a centre for print information sources and electronic resources available online to provide a quality library support to the university fraternity. The library is considered as the heart and brain of the fraternity and is an integral part of the university curriculum.

The library is a constituent of the National Knowledge Network and uses SOUL 2.0 software for its operations and services.

The University Library houses plus 20000 circulating and reference print materials organized in stacks area in a professional way. It also subscribes to around one hundred journals, magazines and newspapers to ensure access to latest information on different disciplines and world affairs. The Library has also established departmental libraries in most of the departments to ensure availability of popular books so that the students and teachers have quick access to the required materials.

The Library is encouraging computer services by allowing access to all information available on the Internet. It has established a Browsing Centre with 50 workstations with broadband Internet connectivity and Wi-Fi facility to the students.

The Library has also subscribed to Developing Library Network (DELNET) Consortium and offers all its services to the users. It offers links to e-book sites like Gutenberg, Google, Bookboon and Internet Archives.
