More about Jamia Hamdard

The Jamia Hamdard University (JH), situated in New Delhi, was announced as Deemed to be University by the Government of India in 1989 after the recommendation of University Grants Commission (UGC) under the UGC Act 1956. The university has been awarded ‘A’ Grade by NAAC. The founder of the university, Hakeem Abdul Hakeem, was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1991 for the noble cause of promoting Education, Health and Social Services. The University offers several UG, PG, Ph.D. and Diploma Courses in the field of Medical Science, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Education, Chemical & Life Science, Unani Medicine, Interdisciplinary Studies, Management & Business Studies, Nursing & Allied Science and Humanity and Social Sciences. The students are given preference on the basis of scores like that of SAT, GMAT, GRE etc.

The campus is spread over an area of 100 acres. The University has a Library system which consists of 6 Faculty libraries for specific streams and one central library. The university has a fully equipped hospital with all modern diagnostic equipments for providing medical facilities to all its employees and outsiders. JH promotes sports and has amenities like Volleyball court, Badminton Court, Cricket ground, Football ground for all. Additionally, the university also offers facilities like Computer center, Scholars’ House, Central Instrumentation Facility, Hostel Facility for students (boys & girls) and residential facility for both teaching and non-teaching staff members as per their convenience.

The online application form for admission starts from the month of March and continues till June for different courses. The admissions are provided on the basis of entrance test and interview conducted by the University. Out of the total seats available, 50% seats are reserved for Indian Muslims and 15% are reserved for foreign nationals according to MHRD or UGC norms. Remaining seats are filled on the basis of open merit. Marks relaxation is given to Sports-person, physically challenged, Jamia employee wards, SC, ST candidates.

Admission to undergraduate programs under Biology streams which include MBBS, BUMS, Nursing, Pharmacy, Paramedical Science, Rehabilitation Science, and Chemical Life Science will be done on the basis of NEET score, subject to fulfilling other eligibility criteria. For B.Tech programs, JEE Mains score (of the respective year) will be taken into consideration. In case of food technology, B.sc- M.Sc. program, offered by the School of Chemical & Life Sciences, Score of either NEET or JEE Mains will be taken into consideration. For postgraduate programs, the university conducts its own entrance test followed by an interview which holds 15% of total weightage.

The university has got Student’s Aid Fund (SAF) which provides financial help to the needy students. The scholarship is provided on the basis of performance in examinations. Fellowships and scholarships provided by Government of India and Delhi Government are also valid. The university also provides scholarship like Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority students, Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for the single girl child, Post Graduate Merit Scholarship for University Rank holder, Post-Doctoral Fellowship to Women candidates, ? Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for students with Disabilities.

Jamia Hamdard has excellent infrastructure in the form of building , Library, Computers and Administrative backup that is essential for pursuing higher education and research. It has developed an excellent pool of school from academia and industry to enable the students to relate academic inputs to work environment.


The university's has a computer centre which works as lab of the Department of Computer Science, computing facilities, and system analysis units, as well as all necessary peripherals and requisite software. There are five laboratories in the computer centre, with facilities for their respective development fields.


The library system consists of central library and six faculty libraries: the faculties of science, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, Islamic studies, and management studies and information technology.
