Jamia Milia Islamia Admission 2017

Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) is a Public University established in 1920 by a group of Nationalist Muslims like Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmud Hasan, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Shri A.M. Khwaja, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari, Dr. Zakir Husain and other such luminaries, at Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh). Now, the university is located in New Delhi, India. The Degrees/Diplomas/ Certificates offered by Jamia Millia Islamia, are recognized by all the members of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The university has also been accredited grade A by NAAC.

The University offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research Level programmes. Aspirants can get the application forms online from the University’s official website. Students having less than 40% marks will not be eligible for admission. Admission to a few courses happen on the basis of merit in last qualifying exam or national level entrance test.  The university recognizes that teaching and research are complementary activities that can advance its long-term interest. It has Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Education, Humanities & Languages, Architecture & Ekistics, Fine Arts, Law and Dentistry Faculties. Also, it has a well-known AJK Mass Communication Research Centre.

Jamia Millia Islamia has also developed multipronged collaboration with different universities, namely: University of Applied Sciences, Erfurt, Germany, York University Canada, University of Toronto, Mississauga, INALCO, Paris, The University Court of University Edinburg, Edinburg, National College of Science & Technology (NCST), etc.

Jamia Millia Islamia caters to students from all communities but also aims to meet the particular needs of the disadvantaged sections of the Muslim society. The University continues to support measures for positive action and nurture the goals of building a secular and modern system of holistic education.

Seat Reservation

  • 30% of the total number of seats in each Program is earmarked for Muslim applicants.
  • 10% of the total number of seats in each Program is earmarked for Muslim Women applicants.
  • 10% of the total number of seats in each Program is earmarked for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Scheduled Tribes who are Muslims
  • Kashmiri migrants are required to apply and go through the entire admission process. Their admission will be considered over and above not exceeding 5% of the total seats in the program and not exceeding one seat in a few programs as decided by the university.

Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) Application Process

Aspirants who want to apply to Jamia Milia Islamia University must consider the points given below:

  • Candidates are advised to carefully read and follow the instructions provided online during the Application Form Submission Process.
  • Admission forms are available on the University's official website 
  • Online For submission process had two phases i.e (i) Candidate's Registration: Adding basic information about candidate and (ii) Entrance Application Submission: choosing courses, category and submission of entrance application fee. (Application fee INR 700/- or 500/-)
  • Before applying to any course, candidates must check his/her eligibility as determined by the university
  • Aspirants must have passed qualifying examination from an institute/board/universityas recognized by JMI. 
  • Jamia Milia Islamia accepts degrees of all central universities, state instution, institutes of national imporatnce, the only condition is that they  must be established by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
  • Candidates who've appeared for the qualifying examination and waiting for the results can also apply. But, they must submit the documet required by the notified last date
  • The following details must be available to the candidate at the time of registration: (i) A valid and accessible e-mail id, JMI would refer to the e-mail id mention for any communication. (ii) Softcopy of candidate's passport size photograph (min 5 KB and max 20 KB) in JPG/Jpeg format with white background, (iii)Softcopy of candidate's signature in JPG/ JPEG format (min 5 KB and max 20 KB)
  • Candidates can cross check the correctness of the entries filled by them in the preview section. Corrections except for name and DOB  can me make before depositing the entrance application fee. No further correction can be made after the payment of the application fee. Aspirants can apply for additional programs. 
  • A Unique Registration Number and Password will be generated once the admission form is submitted successfully. Now, the candidates can log in to the portal and apply for the programs of his/her choice and then pay the entrance application fee. 
  • Hard copies of the application form will not be accepted by the institute. However, the aspirants are advised to retain a hard copy of the Registration Slip which can be used to login to the system
  •  Candidates can check the status of their application in the University's official website. 

Available College Facilities

Jamia Milia Islamia's infrastructure is good and has been accredited with 'A' grade by NAAC. The students are ensured with various facilities of Hostel, Canteen, Classrooms, laboratories, Internet and Projectors. The classrooms are highly maintained to ensure better teaching and projectors are used where the teaching and learning process is made easy through e-learning. The University's Zakir Hussain library is one of the biggest ones in the Country. There are separate Hostel Buildings for girls and boys.There is also the availability of a Mess or Canteen and the University is located in a well-connected area of the city, having various eating hubs around. Jamia has now completed 96 years of its academic life and sports and Games definitely claim a fair share in the progress of the institution.

Hostel

The University has separate Hostels for boys and girls. The boys' hostel is known as M.M.A. Jauhar Hall or Dr Zakir Hussain Hall. The girls' hostel, on the other hand, is known as Mridula Sarabhai Working Women's' Hostel.

Sports

Ranji Trophy matches are a regular event every year at the Jamia Cricket ground. The University has also hosted Women's Cricket Test matches, Women World Cup matches and Blinds Cricket World Cup matches in the past. The sports complex of the University is called the Bhopal Ground. It consists of a Centrally Air-Conditioned Indoor Games Stadium along with a Viewers Gallery meeting all the International standards.

Library

Established in 1920, this library is known as the Dr Zakir Hussain Library and was named former President of India and Jamia's former Vice-Chancellor in 1973. The library is air-conditioned and well-equipped with all latest technology. It has a stacking capacity of approximately 6 lakh books and a seating capacity of 1300 users. Its Digital Resource Centre facilitates access to e-journals and other digital e-resources.
