Punjabi University Admission 2017

Punjabi University is a public university, established in 1962. Located in Patiala, it has been recognized by UGC and accredited Grade A by NAAC. It has fifty-five teaching and research departments, which offers courses in Arts, Humanities and Science.    

Punjabi University has an array of Bachelors, Masters, Postgraduate diploma (PGD), Advance Post Graduate Diploma, certificate and Doctorate degree programs. Aspirants have the option to apply online or offline mode.

The courses are offered in specializations like Pharmacy, Library sciences, Management, Commerce, Languages, Computer Application, Performing Arts, Law, Engineering, and Business Administration at Under Graduate level. The University also offers distance education in various disciplines. There’s provision for Lateral entry to some courses like B.Tech.

Aspirants can take admission in the university either through entrance exam or through merit. As per Government policy, Punjabi University also has reservation for ST/SC.OBC, Differently abled, etc. 85 % seats would be reserved for the candidates from within the State as per the eligibility criteria of the Government of Punjab and 15 % will be open to candidates of other States/UTs on All India basis.

The institute also offers scholarships to meritorious students and students from economically weaker sections.

Punjabi University offers undergraduate courses in various fields like Humanities, Languages, Technology, Science, Law, etc.

B.A. and B.Sc. degree are offered for a period of three years. B.Tech is offered for 4 years. B.Pharm, BTTM, BHM, etc. are offered for four years, whereas BA LLB is offered for 5 years and BPT for 4.5 years.

Punjabi University Application Process

Aspirants who want to apply to Punjabi University must consider the points given below:

  • Applications forms can be submitted by the aspirant online at the University’s official website
  • Each candidates needs to deposit the counselling fees in the bank prescribed by the university. Pay-in –slip (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes need to pay INR 1000/- and other candidates need to pay INR 2,000/- each)
  • Hard copies of the application forms submitted by post/by hand wouldn’t be accepted and will be rejected automatically.
  • Application form needs to be filled carefully. Fill all the applicable columns with utmost care. Upon successful registration, a User ID and password will be generated. Take note of the User ID and password for future reference. They would be needed again at the time of counselling.
  • Some courses will have an entrance test while admission to others will be done directly
  • Candidates who are appearing for the entrance test need to download the admit card
  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for Interview/ Counselling
  • Take the printout of the application form for future reference

Punjabi University Admission Process

Candidates who want to take admission to Punjabi University must go through the points given below:

  • Punjabi University has different admission or selection criteria for its various courses
  • B.Tech. - Selection to the course will be made on the basis of merit in JEE Main followed by counselling.
  • B.A. Hons. Dance - 70% weightage will be given to the qualifying examination and 30% to the aptitude test/Audition.
  • B.A. Hons. Journalism, Mass Media and Media Technology - 80% weightage will be given to the qualifying examination, 10% to oral skills and 10% to the performance in the Interview.
  • B.Sc. Mathematics & Mathematics and Computing - Selection will be done on the basis of merit.
  • B.Pharm - Selection will be made on the basis of marks scored by the candidate in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology and English as main subjects.
  • BA LLB - Selection will be done on the basis of merit which will be followed by State Level Counselling.
  • M.Com. Hons. - Admission will be made on the basis of an Entrance Exam
  • MBA – Selection will be done the basis of merit. Aspirants who’ve given CAT will be preferred
  • MPT - Selection to this course will be made on the basis of merit where 40% weightage will be given to class 12th examination and 60% to BPT degree.
  • Admission to other courses will be done on the basis of merit or university conducted entrance exam.

There are three residential hostels for boys and four residential hostels for girls. The hostel's house 4000 students. A common mess is attached to the hostel. 

Laboratory

The University provides with a Computer lab facility with free Wi-Fi for students and teachers. 

Sports

Students are encouraged to take an active part in sports. Facilities for games such as hockey, football, cricket etc. and well as indoor games are provided. The University has a large gym and a hall for indoor games.

Extra - Curricular

1. Centre for Development Economics and Innovation Studies (CDEIS) -  It has been established with financial support from the Ministry of Finance, Government of India at Punjabi University, Patiala in April 2012. The Centre is engaged in conducting Conferences, workshops and training programmes.

2. Women's Studies Centre (WSC) - The Women's Studies Centre, Punjabi University,  collaborated with the Department of Theater and Television, Centre for Advanced Media Studies and Department of youth welfare has developed audiovisual content to highlight the issues of education, health, and nutrition of girl child. 

3. Centre for Advanced Media Studies (CAMS) - It has been established so that students get a clear version of the media industry. They also offer media courses in Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree. 

4. Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC) - The center was established as Audio Visual Research Centre (AVRC) in 1989 by the UGC-CEC at Punjabi University, under the Country-Wide Classroom (CWC) Project. Promoting and experimenting with new technology was the main new key area. 

5. Centre for Census Studies and Research (CCSR) -The center is made to keep a check on social-economic-demographic conditions of India's Population.

 

Library

Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha is the Central Library which is a hub of academic and research activities. It stocks more than 415,000 books and has hundreds of journals. The library is kept open for 360 days. The library has a reading hall, which has a capacity for 400 readers.
