Vidyasagar University Admissions 2017

Vidyasagar University (VU), a Public University named after one of the biggest names in the history of Indian Renaissance, Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, is established in the Midnapore district of the state of West Bengal. The University, established in the year 1985, was accorded recognition to the University by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the year 1990 and accredited by NAAC with a 3-Star status.

VU has been ranked among the top 100 Universities in India in the University Category by the NIRF Ranking 2017. The University mainly offers courses at the Post Graduate (PG) level but also offers several courses at the Under Graduate (UG) level. Several of the degrees offered in disciplines like arts, science, commerce, etc., include Master in Sociology, Master in Physics, Master of Computer Applications and many others.

Vidyasagar University Application Process

The Application form to be filled in by the candidates for applying to any of the courses of the University are available only through the online portal of the University (https://onlineadmission.vidyasagar.ac.in ). After successful completion of all the steps (like filling up the Personal Details, Academic Details, uploading Photo and Signature), the candidates are required to pay Rs. 150/- (Rupees one hundred and fifty only) only through online mode of payment (Credit/ Debit Card, Net Banking, etc.).

The students of other universities are eligible to fill the forms for admission to Post- graduate and other courses with their marks obtained in B. A. (Hons.)/ B. Sc. (Hons.)/ B. Com. (Hons.) Part- I & Part- II examinations (Total Hons. Marks). However, they have to produce the original mark sheets of final examinations (Part- III) at the time of counseling- cum- admission.

The Print out of the online filled application form is required to be submitted at the time of counseling.

Self- attested photocopies of all the Mark sheets of the examinations passed (10th onward), University Registration Certificate and a copy of the Passport Size coloured photograph affixed on the space provided in the Form.

Self- attested photocopy of the Admit Card/ Certificate of H. S. or its equivalent/ Madhyamik as evidence of the date of birth.

Following documents have to be brought by the candidate:

  • Self- attested photocopy of SC/ ST/ OBC- A/ OBC- B/ Persons with Disability (PwD) certificate issued by the appropriate authority, if quota has been claimed by the candidate.
  • Self- attested photocopies of the Certificate of Games & Sports/ Cultural Competition (International/ National/ State obtained in the last two years), if quota has been claimed by the candidate.
  • Self- attested photocopy of the BPL Certificate of the parents issued by the appropriate authority, if concession of tuition fees has been claimed by the candidate.
  • Migration Certificate (for other university candidates only) must be submitted within two months from the date of admission.
  • Application form, if not properly filled in and accompanied with the attested copies of all the documents as stated above, shall stand liable to get cancelled.
  • All the candidates are required to produce all the original Certificates, Mark Sheets and testimonials for verification at the time of Counselling and admission. Candidates are required to be personally present for proper verification of the photograph affixed with the application form.

Vidyasagar University Admission Process

As per order of the Govt. of West Bengal, 60% of total seats for each subject will be reserved for the students of VU & autonomous college(s) affiliated to Vidyasagar University and 40% seats will be available for all (Open Competition).

Candidates with Honours Degree of the current session and the immediately preceding session will be considered equally eligible for the purpose of application.

Selection will be made purely on the basis of merit obtained in the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by V. U. In the event of equal marks obtained in CET, total marks/ percentage of marks of Honours is to be taken into account for ranking. In case of equal marks obtained in the Honours Degree, immediately preceding Examination will be considered for ranking.

60% of the total seats for each course will be reserved for the students of V. U. & autonomous college(s) affiliated to Vidyasagar University, which will be selected from the merit list of CET.

The remaining 40% (Open Competition - other universities as well as V. U. & autonomous college(s) affiliated to V. U.) of the total seats for each subject will also be selected from the merit list of CET, provided they obtain the following marks in the Honours Degree:

  • Arts & Commerce: 45% marks in Hons. Degree (for Gen. Candidates) and 40% marks in Hons. Degree (for SC/ ST/ OBC- A/ OBC- B/ PWD Candidates)
  • Science: 50% marks in Hons. Degree (for Gen. Candidates) and 45% marks in Hons. Degree (for SC/ ST/ OBC- A/ OBC- B/ PWD Candidates)

Quota for SC/ ST will be considered as per Govt. order. Number of seats (SC- 22%, ST- 6%) will be calculated and considered separately for the 60% seats of V. U. students and 40% seats that are Open to all. Fraction of 0.5% or more will be rounded off to the next whole number. In case of non-availability of students belonging to the SC category, the seats reserved for SC may be converted to ST Category and vice-versa.

3% of each category will be reserved for Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates. Merit list will be prepared on the percentage of PWD. In case of non - availability of PWD candidates, the seats reserved for PWD will be converted to General Category.

1% of total Seats are reserved for sports/ cultural prize holders.

Prize holders in International/ National/ State representations in the last two years will be considered for sports quota provided that he/ she has participated in the Inter College Competitions/ Inter College Athletic Meet organized by the University in his/ her tenure of the Under Graduate programme. The sports played are Football, Volleyball, Athletic, Yoga, Kho Kho, Kabaddi, Chess, Table Tennis, etc. A committee will be formed to assess the performance of the applicants in their respective field.

SELECTION PROCESS FOR ADMISSION

Prize holders in the International/ National/ State meets in the last two years will be considered for Cultural quota provided that he/ she has participated in the Inter College Cultural Competition organized by the University in his/ her tenure of attending the Under Graduate programme. A committee will be constituted to assess the performance of the applicants in the respective field.

60% seats will be reserved for the students of the Vidyasagar University and autonomous college(s) affiliated to Vidyasagar University and 40% seats will be reserved for students applying under Open Competition category. This 60% and 40% reservation may be relaxed in case of non - availability of the applicants in either of the categories.

Questions will be in the form of MCQ; Total Marks- 50; Total No. of Questions- 50, Time- One hour

Questions will be set in English, except in Bengali, Hindi, Sanskrit and Santali.

Available College Facilities

The Vidyasagar University has Hostels, medical unit, Guest house, Sports unit and placement cell facilities. 

Hostel

The University has seprate departments for Girls and Boys. The hostelers are provided with sports facilities also. Daily newspapers and journals are provided to the students. Wifi facility is alos provided to them. 

Sports

The University provides with various type of tournaments like Football, Cricket, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Chess and yoga.
