More about Vikram University

Vikram University was set up in 1957 in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the oldest universities in the state. The University strives to maintain high academic standards with respect to curriculum, teaching, learning, evaluation and research by offering suitable physical and academic infrastructure. The focus is set on providing value-added professional education and computer-oriented studies. Vikram University has been given ‘A’ grade by NAAC and is approved by UGC.

Vikram University has been ranked in the 101-150 band among universities in India in the year 2017 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The University has collaboration/associations with several national and international institutions. It offers instruction in higher learning and research guidance in about 125 diversified courses related to economic growth, development of science, society and human values. University’s Research Projects & Extension Works are being funded by various renowned institutions/ organizations including:

• Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)

• Department of Science and Technology (DST)

• University Grants Commission (UGC)

• All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)

Vikram University has 12 faculties and 29 School of Studies and Institutes, NCC, NSS Training and Orientation Centre. Additionally, there are 158 affiliated colleges across Ujjain, Agar, Dewas, Ratlam, Shajapur, Mandsaur and Neemuch districts of Western Madhya Pradesh. The university provides undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and research programmes in the fields of arts, science, humanities, commerce, management, technology, engineering, information technology, etc.

Admission will be done on the merit basis, to be considered as per order of merit of the grand total of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Also, the reservation will be followed in every School of Studies as per the rules of the State Government. Students seeking admission can fill their application online or in person. The university conducts its own entrance test for some courses.

The university has excellent infrastructural facilities such as separate hostels for boys and girls, guest house for external examiners and visiting faculty, health centre, bank, a well-equipped library, university press, computer centre, post office, etc.



The university has four boys' hostels, namely Kalidas Hostel, Bhartihari Hostel, Sandipani Hostel and J.N.I.B.M. Hostel with a total of 348 rooms and one girls' hostel with 100 rooms on single as well as sharing basis. In addition to these, there are two other hostels in the university campus for SC and ST students. These hostels are under the control of Department of Tribal Welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh.

The university has a department of physical education and sports which was established in 1960. It works towards the academic training of sports and organizes all competitive activities. The department has a gymnasium as well as playgrounds. The department organizes various inter-college competitions as well. The students can participate in various sports such as Athletics, boxing, badminton, basketball, chess, cross country races, cricket, football, gymnastics, malkhambh, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, kho-kho, powerlifting, weight-lifting, tennis, table-tennis, softball, swimming, volleyball, wrestling and yoga.

Vikram University Library was established in 1957 and was renamed as Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Library after it was shifted to its new premises. The library has 160856 books with special collections of Kalidas, Tulsidas and Gandhi’s works. The library has also procured 1645 Ph.D. thesis and 6049 P.G. dissertations. It has published 22 bibliographical and current affairs publications. The library provides various other services such as the Interlibrary loan, selective dissemination of information, Micro film reading facilities, etc.
